Employers Find Ways to Ease Hiring Stress

Hiring managers across the country are drowning in resumes, and a new platform called CandidateView wants to pull them back to shore using technology borrowed from digital advertising. A 2023 survey of 1,200 hiring managers conducted by Zogby Analytics found that overwhelming volume, unqualified applicants, and slow processes have turned recruiting into one of the most stressful jobs.

The Resume Traffic Jam

AI on platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, and ZipRecruiter has made it much simpler for job seekers to apply for a position in mere seconds, which has, in turn, caused a massive traffic jam in HR departments across the country. Many use AI software to screen for candidates, but even that isn’t enough to slow the deluge.

“Employers are just getting flooded with resumes,” said Vinay Jatwani, founder of CandidateView. “But if you look at it, a resume is just a checklist. It doesn’t tell you anything about an individual.” Jatwani spent years working in ad tech before turning his attention to hiring. He believes the same targeting technology used to match customers with products can match companies with the right employees.

Video-First Hiring

CandidateView shifts the focus away from paper qualifications and toward video communication. Job seekers start by watching short clips about the company, its culture, and the specific role. Employers can produce these videos themselves or use AI‑generated versions featuring actors of various backgrounds.

Once candidates understand what they’re getting into, they answer custom interview questions by recording video responses. The platform offers hundreds of pre‑made questions organized by category, though employers can write their own. Candidates record on their own schedule and can re‑record as many times as they like before submitting.

Early data indicates the service eliminated 65 percent of unwanted applications. “We’ve brought our knowledge from ad tech to HR tech,” Jatwani said.

The platform also lets candidates vet employers before committing to a full interview process. Instead of reading a generic job description, they can watch the hiring manager explain the role directly.

AI as a Filter, Not a Replacement

Jatwani insists the technology isn’t meant to replace human judgment. Once candidates pass through the video screening, they still meet real people face‑to‑face. The goal is prescreening, not automation of final decisions.

“We want good candidates to get greater visibility for themselves and sell themselves above and beyond just their resume,” Jatwani explained. “And we want to make it easier for employers to meet these good candidates.”
