Cork-based energy solutions company SE Systems has announced plans to create up to 150 new jobs over the next two years as part of a major expansion strategy aimed at doubling annual turnover to €100 million by 2030. The initiative includes a €3 million investment in a new headquarters in Dublin Hill, Cork, which was officially opened by EU Commissioner Michael McGrath.
New Headquarters and Job Creation
The new facility, spanning 15,000 square feet and rated A-class energy efficiency, will serve as a central hub for SE Systems. This hub will enable the company to meet the growing demand for energy efficiency, solar, and retrofit solutions from homeowners, communities, and businesses across Ireland. In addition to this, the expansion involves growing the company’s Dublin office and developing strategic partnerships nationwide. Plans are also in place to expand regional hubs in Clare, Donegal, and Louth.
Of the 150 positions, the company intends to recruit across diverse fields including engineering, project management, energy services, software, digital technologies, operations, technical support, and business development. These roles will cater to both experienced professionals and newcomers to the workforce.
Company Background and Achievements
Founded in 2010, SE Systems collaborates with homeowners, businesses, and public sector organizations to implement energy efficiency plans. The company manages grant applications for solar and heat pump installations, streamlining processes for clients. Currently, it employs 112 staff and works with 300 specialist subcontractors nationwide.
Since its inception, SE Systems has successfully retrofitted nearly 15,000 homes and over 2,000 commercial buildings. Notable commercial partners include Tesco, ESB Smart Energy Services, Stryker, and Johnson & Johnson. The firm has unlocked almost €1 billion in energy-saving grants for customers over 16 years and processes approximately €100 million in commercial and community energy grants annually.
Through its projects, the company has saved over 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours of energy and reduced carbon emissions by 358,000 tonnes since 2010. Its “one-stop-shop” service helps clients access retrofitting grants, easing administrative burdens while supporting cost reductions through energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
Workforce Development Plans
SE Systems plans to invest further in workforce development by expanding training and career opportunities through partnerships with educational institutions, apprenticeship providers, and industry organizations. Initiatives include apprenticeships, graduate recruitment, professional development, upskilling programmes, and new career pathways in engineering, energy management, and digital technologies.
Co-founder and CEO John O’Leary attributed the expansion to rising demand for practical energy efficiency solutions. “Our investment in Cork, expansion in Dublin and development of partnerships nationwide will allow us to support more organisations and communities as they reduce energy costs, improve sustainability performance and transition towards a low-carbon future,” he said.
Co-founder and managing director Youenn Lowry emphasized the company’s commitment to people-driven growth. “People are at the centre of our success,” Lowry stated. “By developing the next generation of energy professionals through apprenticeships, graduate programmes, and partnerships with third-level colleges, we aim to build a skilled workforce capable of meeting Ireland’s energy-related challenges while supporting our ambition to double turnover to €100 million within three years.”
EU Commissioner Michael McGrath highlighted SE Systems as a prime example of a home-grown business going from strength to strength. The creation of 150 jobs is welcome news in any sector, but especially in the renewable and green economy.
